A Trip Down Memory Lane
Today’s journey will take us back to April of 1965 thanks to an old edition of Peacock Gap’s former newsletter, The Peacock.
In April 1965, professional golfer, Billy Casper joined Peacock Gap Golf Club, then known as Peacock Gap Country Club, as a touring professional. Casper initially visited Peacock Gap on March 23rd of that year, playing in front of an interested audience and hosting a youth golf clinic.
This came fresh off of winning a $15,000 prize at the Bob Hope Classic in February of that year. Casper then went on to win the PGA Championship later that year and once again in 1971.
In fact, Casper won numerous awards throughout his decorated career despite being labeled as an underrated golfer. His most notable achievement was his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978.
