Stop Missing 4-Foot Putts Today

You’re hoping someone will say, “that’s good, pick it up” but not a word is spoken. You start thinking negatively, your grip pressure increases, and your stroke will be a fast jab . . . pretty close?

Try this: Pick a line and unless it’s a big break, don’t give up the hole. This means inside left edge, inside right edge or straight. Try to get the ball below your left eye or a half-inch ahead of center. Take a deep breath and don’t forget to exhale; light grip pressure; then start the back swing with your shoulders and arms, not your hands. The rest of your body should be motionless. This means no swaying, and this includes your head. If you have a habit of peeking to watch the putt, I’ll bet you often push it. Obviously, try this method on the practice green. I encourage “around the world” by placing a tee at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 around the cup. Once you can routinely make all four putts, your confidence will soar and on the course those 4-footers will be easy.
